Detroit Rock City: Come See Sam Morgan at Detcon1!

Not the hershey kind.

This is Detroit formal wear, right?

Are you ready to rock and roll all night and party every day at this year’s North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC)/DetCon1? If that answer is yes, then you’ll have plenty of chances to see one of our agents Sam Morgan throughout the convention in Detroit. And since I’m the one writing this, can we skip the third person? That makes me feel weird.

Anyway, here’s my schedule (all times are EST). Be forewarned, these are going to ROCK:

THE FIRST THING: STORY TITLES.
7/17 Thursday 7:00pm
Nicolet A
How do writers choose story titles? What makes a good title? Who gets to decide what the title will be? And which comes first, the story or the title?
I’m moderating this panel!

KAFFEEKLATSCH
(7/18) Friday 10:00am
KaffeeKlatsch 1
A small group discussion led by literary agent Sam Morgan. Your opportunity for a more informal discussion with one of our participants. (Limited seating. Sign up at Info Desk.)
Come talk to me at a round table.

WRITING HUMOR AND COMEDY IN SFF
7/18 Friday 1:00pm
Ambassador Salon 2
Our panel discusses the challenges of writing humor and comedy in SFF. Is it as easy as it looks? Or as hard as some people say it is?
I’m looking forward to all of my panels, obviously, but I’m REALLY looking forward to this one. I have thoughts and feelings about humor and comedy. Also our client Jim C. Hines will be on the panel as well. Here’s his schedule if you’d like a chance to see him.

WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
7/19 Saturday 1:00pm
Mackinac East
Agents and editors talk about the sorts of projects that interest them individually and answer general publishing questions.
I get to talk about what I’m looking for in potential clients. It’ll basically sound like an OKCupid profile.

THE BAD GUYS
7/19 Saturday 6:00pm
Mackinac West
Villains drive conflict in a story, and offer a mirror reflecting a special view of the protagonists. Our panelists discuss their favorite villains, whether drawn from their own work or the creation of others, and tell us what they love about their villain and why.

ADDITIONAL COMPLETELY INFORMAL AND RANDOM PITCH SESSIONS THROUGH OUT THE CON!
I did this at this year’s Balticon and had a blast so I will probably do this again. As you can see, I have a few hours between panels. I may post up at a random table and start hearing pitches. If you miss a chance to meet with me at one of these formal panels or pitch sessions, absolutely feel free to come up and talk to me about anything! Follow me closely on Twitter to find out when and where I’ll be!
