Reviews

Sookie Stackhouse Series

Dead Until Dark (#1)
“The goofy charm of Harris’ world, with its humor and occasional terror, is what makes DEAD UNTIL DARK so delightful.”

The Denver Post

“Fang-tastic — one to savour.”

The Sun (UK)

“An absorbing mix of romance, mystery and the supernatural. Harris weaves humor with an edginess that makes for taut reading. Best of all, she’s created an uniquely down-to-earth heroine in Sookie and an otherworldly charmer in Sookie’s beau, Bill. Perhaps you’ll never meet a more unlikely couple, but you won’t forget them either!”

RT Book Reviews

“This book’s intelligent mixture of painful, pleasurable, serious, skeptical and unexpected moments in a relationship where neither hero nor heroine can merge with the local norm, recalls the best kinds of magical realism. And it’s one of the best vampire novels I’ve read in quite a while.”

Locus

“Read more than a few pages and you’ll find yourself hooked. This is the best tongue-in-cheek vampire story I have ever read.”

SFX Magazine (UK)

“Rural America finally has a vampire story to call its own […] Charlaine Harris delivers both horror and humor as seen from the unique perspective of rural America. You’ve got to love a book where a vampire addresses a Civil War society called the Descendants of the Glorious Dead.”

Tanya Huff, bestselling author of BLOOD PRICE

“Highly original, extraordinarily riveting, erotic and exotic. In DEAD UNTIL DARK, Charlaine Harris weaves storytelling magic in a tale of vampires and small town Louisiana.”

Lynn Hightower, Shamus Award-winning author of EYESHOT

Living Dead in Dallas (#2)
“Delightful. Harris playfully mixes several genres to make a new one that is her own bright creation.”

Denver Post

“Highly entertaining […] It’s great fun, a light-hearted small-town variation of the same sort of vampire thrills that make Laureel K. Hamilton’s ‘Anita Blake’ novels so popular.”

Locus

“One terrific read. Harris has created a charming and winning character in Sookie Stackhouse […] Wonderful characters, an inventive plot, and terrific situations. She has a real feel for the world she has created and allows the willing suspension of disbelief to do its job. Reminiscent of Laurell Hamilton and her Anita Blake series, it also reminds a reader of Tanya Huff’s work and has the same light touch. There is a joy and an innocence about the work that make it very appealing.”

Kliatt

“Harris certainly proves her creativity in a story with an excellent pretext.”

VOYA

“Harris has created an entertaining and inventive series of fantasy-horror thrillers that deserve to be read […] There’s plenty of intrigue in the well-handled plot.”

SFX Magazine (UK)

“Harris brings off this blend of mystery and vampires better than most.”

Science Fiction Chronicle

“You don’t want to miss a single paragraph of this 'Southern Vampire' series. It’s all delivered in well-written fast-paced Southern twang that will keep you turning the pages.”

Cemetery Dance

“Light-hearted and appealing, LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is a real charmer. The mystery is puzzling, and it’s easy to see why Sookie is so taken with undead Bill!”

Romantic Times

“A delightful mix of the supernatural, romance and mystery genres that create a new and unique work of fun reading.”

Midwest Book Review

“LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is a fast-paced read that hurtles through one hair-raising adventure after another.”

The Romance Reader

“LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is […] an entertaining read. The book is fast-paced, and the story line is intriguing. Harris has given her readers a lively romp through a fantasy land that’s grounded in the real world.”

The News-Star

“Her writing style and gift for irony are a cut above most of those trying to find something original in vampire fiction.”

Rocky Mountain News

“Harris is having fun with a mix of horror and humor.”

The Poisoned Pen

“This book is hot! A rousing, hilarious, romantic read!”

Romantic Times Clubhouse

Club Dead (#3)
“With some droll touches–Elvis, now a vampire, is Sookie’s faithful guard–CLUB DEAD is ideal for readers who like their vampire fiction light, humorous, and fast-paced.”

Booklist

“New revelations about vampire politics, plenty of eccentric characters, and a daring rescue combine to provide plenty of fun.”

Locus

“These books are intended to be fun–and they are. Quite a lot of fun, in fact […] It’s just as lively and entertaining as the first two. If you’re looking for a fun supernatural romp across a Southern landscape, you won’t do much better than Harris’ books.”

News-Star

“The third adventure maintains the high standards of its predecessors.”

Science Fiction Chronicle

“There’s plenty of action in this one, with fights, stakings, deaths and many ruined outfits. Kinda funny, kinda sexy, this book is for those who like their horror light.”

Fangoria

“Harris knows how to keep her plots bubbling along nicely, but also brings plenty of colour to her evocation of the Deep South, and keeps the supernatural side of the story on a believable level. The sexy, enjoyable relationships never overwhelm the story, and the whole mixture is helped by a main character who’s humane, flawed, and genuine fun to be around. [...] If you’re in the mood for some genuinely entertaining page-turners, with a dash of blood-red horror […] give Sookie Stackhouse a try. She’s slowly gathering a cult following, so be prepared to hear more of her…”

SFX Magazine (UK)

“A third in the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris is as deliciously wonderful as the previous two. You don’t want to miss this winning series starting with DEAD UNTIL DARK.”

Mystery Scene

“Fast-paced, exciting narratives […] make the series an easy and pleasurable read.”

Total SciFi Online

“Charlaine Harris blends elements from the horror, mystery and romance genres to create a novel that is refreshingly unique. CLUB DEAD is a real live treat.”

Harriet Klausner

Dead to the World (#4)
“[A] delightful series. [Harris] makes Sookie so real we can accept her world of vampires and mind reading as normal also.”

The Denver Post

“An increasingly riotous series […] Ms. Harris has never been in better form.”

The Dallas Morning News

“Gripping and spicy.”

Booklist

“Fans of Laurell Hamilton’s Anita Blake looking for a lighter version should cotton to Sookie Stackhouse. Consistent, well-built characters and a strong action-packed plot that will keep readers guessing to the end distinguish this frothy blend of romance, mystery and fantasy.”

Publishers Weekly

“Atmospheric and edgy [...] This steamy yarn is one fans of supernatural romance and Southern mysteries will also relish.”

RT Book Reviews

“Another fun installment in a consistently amusing mystery series.”

Locus

“Best in the series so far.”

Science Fiction Chronicle

“Once again Harris has created both a witty and entertaining adventure to snare her readers with.”

SF Site

“Nifty […] As fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer know, a sense of humor helps when dealing with the supernatural.”

The Orlando Sentinel

“As with the other three books in the series, DEAD TO THE WORLD is great fun. It’s light and fast-paced — just action from start to finish. Harris strikes a style that’s much more fun than Anne Rice […] She tells the story with a down-home flavor that’s not often found in the horror or fantasy sections of the bookstore. If you haven’t checked out Harris’ Southern Vampire series yet, you should. It’s great fun.”

The News-Star

“The book is pure fun. Harris offers […] plenty of entertainment.”

Sunday Advocate

“With absolute assurance–and an audacious wink of her eye–Harris creates a world that is both a weird possibility and a wild ride […] Harris sends us careening on an outrageously goofy ride that she works awfully hard to help us enjoy. And enjoy it we do, because she cares so inordinately about making us believe in this “other-world” of her own ingenious creation.”

The Anniston Star

“An earthy, tough and irrepressible lead […] one of the most readable books you’ll ever pick up.”

January Magazine

“If you’ve been following this series, DEAD TO THE WORLD is another fun read. If not, and you find this sort of thing appetizing […] you’ve now got four books you can sink your teeth into.”

SFRevu

“I’m a fan! Whenever a new book in this terrific series arrives in bookstores, I’m the first in line to buy it [...] Harris writes with style, wit, and warmth.”

Jayne Ann Krentz, New York Times bestselling author of THE WAITING GAME

Dead as a Doornail (#5)
“Harris does an admirable job of creating a heroine who’s not only interesting but completely believable in a world of the strange and the different. Natural and humorous dialogue and a nicely paced plot that doesn’t dwell so much on Sookie’s old boyfriends help make this entry the best yet in the series.”

Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

“Harris’ southern vampire series remains one of the best of the breed, concocted out of just the right mixture of humor, intrigue, and excitement. Its latest entry does not disappoint.”

Booklist

“Plot twists and fascinating characters abound in this welcome addition to Harris’s Anthony Award-winning 'Southern Vampire' series.”

Library Journal

“Harris’ latest paranormal adventure is every bit as entertaining, suspenseful and romantic as previous installments. It’s an evocative blend of romance, suspense and alternate-Earth fantasy, with a stand-alone mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Sookie’s wry commentary and expert characterization make this one stand out from the crowd.”

RT Book Reviews

“Fun […] thoroughly engaging series.”

Locus

“A very good mystery […] A very entertaining story. The previous four volumes in the series are all worth your time.”

Chronicle

Definitely Dead (#6)
“Harris keeps the action going nonstop in this bubbly brew of supernatural spice and whimsical whodunit that’s more fun than a barrel of beignets.”

Publishers Weekly

“With more twists and turns for Sookie, including complications in her unconventional love life, this sixth book in Harris’s 'Southern Vampire' series offers a grand blend of mystery-cum-fantasy with dollops of romance and humor.”

Library Journal

“Life is never easy for Sookie, which is bad for her but great for readers [...] Sookie is a richly drawn and complex character, and rooting for her is a joy. Harris makes combining suspense, the paranormal and romance look easy.”

RT Book Reviews

“[DEFINITELY DEAD] finds Harris at the top of her game—she’s one of the rare authors who understands the close relationship between humor and horror, and one of the even rarer writers who can effectively exploit it [...] Harris’ heroine easily captures both the hearts and minds of her audience.”

Mystery Scene

“The plot line is a bit more complex then most, interweaving a number of threads containing a wide variety of characters. And while there is plenty of action, and adventure, Sookie is never going to be a stereotypical action heroine.”

SFRevu.com

“This series has deservedly become immensely popular amongst supernatural romance fans.”

SFRevu (UK)

“Harris ties together murder mystery, horror and fantasy genres with a beguiling blend of wit and humor that make for a rapid paced romp in this sixth installment of the “Stackhouse” series. This will leave readers wondering how long they have to wait before the next Stackhouse adventure.”

Monsters & Critics

“Harris expertly and deftly moves Sookie along life’s road […] It packs in heaps that would take other writers twice as long to get over. It also emotionally engages the reader with a heroine who isn’t a superwoman but has an edge over us mere mortals.”

SFcrowsnest (UK)

“I really wish I’d read all of the first five before I got my hands on DEFINITELY DEAD. Now I’ll have to hunt them down and start from the beginning.”

Reviewingtheevidence.com

“Darker, but just as much fun, is Charlaine Harris’ series of novels about Sookie Stackhouse. Wildly popular. It’s impossible not to love the wry, sexy, often earnest, ordinary-if-it-wasn’t-for-the-whole-mind-reading-thing Sookie, surely one of the most winning heroines to guide us through the dark side in a long time. Maybe ever.”

Bookpage.com

“These books are always fun. Vampires seem more human in Ms. Harris’ books, without losing their otherworldliness. If you have missed this series until now, go back to Book One and treat yourself to them all. I’d love to sit down with Charlaine Harris and Tanya Huff, and listen to them riff about the supernatural. Harris writes woo-woo and mystery with the best of them.”

Eternalnight.co.uk

“Charlaine Harris has created her own sub-genre with tongue in cheek (or should I say fang) humor that pops up the oddest times yet is used brilliantly as a tension reliever during the height of intense action scenes. Readers will thoroughly enjoy this special one of a kind series and after reading this book, will definitely want to obtain the backlist of books in this wonderful series.”

Harriet Klausner

All Together Dead (#7)
“Harris juggles a large cast, including several romantic contenders for Sookie’s heart, with effortless exuberance […] Addictive.”

Publishers Weekly

“[T]he series remains thoroughly entertaining, with some unexpected horrors and surprises.”

Locus

“[An] exciting new addition to the Southern Vampire series. The action is lively and the pace quick enough to keep the reader engaged to the last page. The climax […] Is satisfying. This is a great addition to one of the more entertaining series in the paranormal genre.”

Monsters & Critics

“Harris has marked off her own little plot of the literary landscape and the ground has so far proved consistently fertile. I think the reason I enjoy this series so much is that Harris manages to instill her stories with the same tension and complexity as the best of the Anita Blake novels without getting so caught up in the angst of conflicting desires and motivations. She has a lighter touch without being lightweight.”

Critical Mass

“We eagerly await the next volume of the saga. Another Sookie Stackhouse adventure is worth waiting for. If you haven’t read the Southern Vampire series yet, start with DEAD UNTIL DARK and enjoy it from the beginning.”

SFRevu

“Harris proves that it is indeed possible to keep a series entertaining indefinitely.”

Crimespree Magazine

“This book may be the best in the series so far […] Read it and enjoy the rollercoaster ride.”

Mystery News

“She keeps you amused and chilled and offers mysteries that keep the tension thrumming. And while Harris has more than a few serious thoughts on her mind, she’s loath to bash you over the head with them. ALL TOGETHER DEAD is a delightful kitchen sink novel that, while it lacks a kitchen sink, offers so much more.”

The Agony Column

“A must-read for those who like vampires and southern belles with brains and spunk.”

Green Man Review

From Dead to Worse (#8)
“The series continues to be inventive and funny with an engaging, smart and sexy heroine. There are are almost monthly variations of supernatural characters in our midst, and Harris is the gold standard of the genre.”

The Denver Post

“Harris outdoes herself [...] packing the story full of romantic tension and supernatural action.”

Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

“Sookie fans will love this addition to the series.”

Library Journal

“The non-stop revelations, interspersed with plenty of action, should keep series fans enthralled.”

Locus

“More twists than a tornado […] enough to entertain any series fan.”

BookLoons

Dead and Gone (#9)
“The ninth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series is one of the best. Librarians, be warned: buy multiple copies.”

Library Journal, Starred Review

“Fans should devour the ninth novel in Harris’ series like a ravenous vampire let loose in a blood bank.”

Chicago Sun-Times

“The appeal of Harris’ Southern vampire series both predates and transcends the current popular obsession with bloodsucking romance. Her story-telling is absorbing and addictive, her humor is brilliant, and her characters are as believable as vampires, werewolves, and telepaths can be.”

Colorado Springs Independent

“Darker and more ominous than earlier entries in the series, Harris’ latest raises the stakes (pun intended) for lovable heroine Sookie and comes up with a winner. With HBO’s True Blood, a series based on Sookie’s adventures, renewed for a second season, expect demand for this latest gripping installment.”

Booklist

“Harris pulls out all the stops in this dramatic and downright scary story [...] darker in tone and content than most of her previous chapters. This is a seminal book in the series–and one that won’t soon be forgotten. It’s marvelously addictive, and you better hang on tight!”

RT Book Reviews

“One of the most thrilling volumes in the series so far.”

Locus

“Brilliant. These charismatic vamps put Edward Cullen to shame.”

M-Teen Magazine

“DEAD AND GONE takes a delightful step up from the last installment […] Harris is a master at taking several paranormal worlds and plunging them into our reality with humor.”

Tulsa World

“Harris’ best offering in a while […] takes the story back to its origins and settles in with lots of action and Southern charm.”

Sacramento Book Review

“Sookie must uncover the threats, beat back the danger and find love, perhaps in all the wrong places. Of course, that is why we come back to the series year after year: To root for Sookie. She’s the oddball who lurks in us all.”

Houston Chronicle

“Harris […] ratchets up both the Harlequin moments — and the blood content — for DEAD AND GONE, her ninth novel […] whether she can keep this up is hard to tell — but, in DEAD AND GONE, she holds it together and very well, thank you.”

Star-News (Wilmington, NC)

“Harris’ books address how different groups connect — or don’t — in an interesting way. And […] they’re consistently laugh-out-loud funny.”

New Orleans Times-Picayune

“The pace is cracking and Harris obviously knows her heroine well.”

South Coast Register (Australia)

“As always, Harris has given us another smooth, engrossing book that seems almost effortless. Harris is still the leader in the current wave of paranormal fantasy/horror writers.”

Critical Mass

“Ms. Harris packs this story with action, suspense, and the supernatural elements that play a leading role. A fabulous addition to the series […] fans of the series should thoroughly enjoy this new release and be eagerly awaiting the next exciting supernatural adventure.”

Darque Reviews

“DEAD AND GONE completely grabbed my attention and I’m loving the Sookie Stackhouse series even more. Fans of the sereis are going to love it and if you haven’t started it yet, then you really need to.”

Literary Escapism

“DEAD AND GONE is a great addition to the Sookie Stackhouse series and this installment of rural (rather than urban) fantasy is recommended reading for vampire, mystery, and fantasy fans alike.”

Love Vampires

“I’ve followed the series for years now and continue to love the series as much as I did in the beginning. Harris’ characters continue to be realistic in showing both their strengths and faults and Sookie consistently amazes me […] DEAD AND GONE is an engaging novel filled with lots of action; and even though I found it a bit darker than previous Sookie books, I have no doubt that longtime fans of the series will devour this book in no time at all.”

Paranormal Romance

“The story moves at a ripping pace, with the author skillfully building her plot brick by careful brick and everything coming together so well that I stayed up far past my bedtime finishing it.”

All About Romance

A Touch of Dead

ConNotations

Dead in the Family (#10)
“Lively and funny, DEAD IN THE FAMILY has genuine heart.”

The Los Angeles Times

“Hits a new level of excellence!”

RT Book Reviews

“Harris remains my favorite.”

Critical Mass

“If you’re one of Charlaine Harris’ readers you will not be disappointed. Old friends abound, characters deepen, and you’ll hope the next book is not too far away.”

SFRevu

“One of the reasons Charlaine Harris has been able to maintain the series so successfully is that she varies her pace between the novels, rather than bring on successively more massive (and ultimately more ridiculous) enemies and events. Fans who love the series because of the characters will welcome the chance to see Sookie and co in a less action packed story.”

SFX Magazine (UK)

“I continue to enjoy Harris’ series, and look forward to each book to see what will happen to Sookie next. Here’s hoping there’s many more adventures for Sookie in the future.”

Parkerburg (WV) News and Sentinel

“Sookie moves through all the crazy stuff with trademark wit and her late grandmother’s wisdom and charm.”

The West Australian

“It took two reads for me to reflect, analyze, and evaluate the book beyond an inchoate awe at what registered to me at the time as a perfectly rendered narrative. My second time through provided some necessary distance, but it did not dim my appreciation of DEAD IN THE FAMILY as one of the most powerful and thematically coherent novels in the series […] The genius of this book, in my opinion, is the way it so deftly ties together the sometimes seemingly disconnected pieces of earlier books.”

Dear Author

Dead Reckoning (#11)
“Charlaine Harris is a master of storytelling with this crafty and wildly popular series.”

Portland Book Review

“[The series] has always drawn fans across genres, and this fastpaced and fun entry will be no exception. […] Sookie mania shows no sign of abating any time soon, and with nicely timed released dates for the latest book and the new season of the TV series, the feeding frenzy is sure to continue.”

Booklist

“Solid [11]th installment […] Harris throws in the usual vampire fight-to-the-death, introduces a new supernatural creature and, most importantly, lays the groundwork for future plot twists.”

Publishers Weekly

“Multitalented Harris wraps up some previous plot threads and lawys out clues to the series’ next intriguing direction. Things are never dull in Bon Temps!”

RT Book Reviews

“This remains one of my favorite urban fantasy series.”

Locus

“Charlaine Harris is a phenomenon. She layers plotlines brilliantly, delivering convincing emotional storylines as well as plenty of action.”

SFX Magazine (UK)

“You won’t want to miss this installment.”

BookLoons

“Surprises, page-ripping action, and twists enough to leave fans anxiously awaiting more.”

Monsters & Critics

The Sookie Stackhouse Companion
“Features a story that adds dimension to Harris’ wider fictional world while remaining squarely focused on two of her longer-running characters, and it serves as a nice spotlight for Sam and his family.”

Kirkus

“Consider the COMPANION a fun addition to your Sookie library.”

Tor.com

“Harris has whipped up a companion piece spiced nicely for a variety of palates, sprinkled deliciously with her trademark humor.”

Scene

“A lot of fun […] As these sort of books go, this is one of the best. There’s enough of the new and the unusual to make it a book that fans with knowledge will keep dipping into, but also might tempt those who have heard of the books/TV programme and have yet to take the next step.”

SFFWorld

“For the Sookie Stackhouse series fan, this book is an absolute must.”

Parkersburg (WV) News & Sentinel

Such a long list of literary luminaries is hard to pass up and with a unique theme such as birthdays for the undead, it makes for a fine read. Midnight, Texas Series

Midnight Crossroad (#1)
“If you’re looking for a light and fun read with a bit of paranormal mystery thrown in, you’re looking in the right place. MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD has a little bit of everything – murder, mayhem, vampires, psychics, witches and who knows what else. Wrapped up neatly with a healthy dose of Ms. Harris’ southern charm and sharp wit, it’s a package worth opening and devouring immediately.”

San Francisco Review of Books

“Charlaine Harris is back, casting her comfortingly familiar folksy-freaky spell.”

Seattle Times

“An excellent new trilogy that captures the same magic as the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, and takes it to another level. No matter how unlikely or fantastic an element she might introduce into her pages it’s always down-home and believable. She’s the Mark Twain of things that live under your bed.”

Houston Chronicle

“I’m always thrilled when a favorite author, especially one with a great track record, starts a new series, so I’ve been anticipating Charlaine Harris’ next journey for a while […] I hope the Midnight series extends for more than three books.”

Kirkus

“As intimate and deep as the Stackhouse novels, but with a lighter load of gore and death, Harris’s latest displays her skills at interweaving the lives of her characters. Recommended for those who prefer a mystery that perhaps calls for accepting the unbelievable and fantastical.”

Library Journal

“Although it’s much lighter on the paranormal elements than Harris’ usual fare, this should still make the holds lists of readers who miss Sookie and company.”

Booklist

“This is a solid entry in Harris’s catalogue and will do very well with her fans.”

Publishers Weekly

“An unusual and highly entertaining new series […] Harris has delivered a supernatural mystery with a decidedly creepy edge.”

RT Book Reviews

“Charlaine Harris is an icon. She’s found success writing mysteries, gothic horror, and paranormal fantasy. But it’s MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD, out today, that may very well be her best–and most important–work to date […] This novel will not only appeal to genre fiction fans but mainstream fiction readers as well. The blend of fiction, mystery, and supernatural fantasy is subtle and seamless. And because of the ensemble cast, the storyline is equally appealing to both male and female readers. The potential audience for this novel is mind-boggling […] [It has] an unforgettable cast of characters […] [and] extraordinary world building. Harris is a master at this.”

Fantasy Book Review

“Charlaine is a master of leaving us wanting more.”

True Blood Net

“A slow burning novel which successfully juggles setting the scene for an ongoing series with a self-contained story.”

SciFi Bulletin

“At its heart MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is a murder mystery, but done in such a way that begs for more to be explored about the characters and setting. It’s a pleasurable and enjoyable read, with Harris’ prose making the experience easy and simple. As a newcomer to her work I can safely say I’ll be back for more, and to see just what else is in store for Midnight, Texas.”

SFFWorld

“Part Twin Peaks, part Twilight, Charlaine has her established following of readers and this will not disappoint, it may well expand her readership.”

Swide Magazine

“This book is a study in character. The slow unfolding of what secrets people choose to hide and what makes them tick is a journey I found vastly clever and interesting […] This is Charlaine Harris’ magic, her ability to create interesting characters that live in a slightly un-normal world.”

Kazoo Books

“Harris has created a cast and setting that is richer than the arid Texas soil. The inclusion of a mystery that starts simply and then winds out of control so that no one can be trusted makes this is a blast to read. Everyone is your friend in Midnight, but you don’t know everything about anyone. I can’t wait for Midnight to come again […] Overall Grade: A+.”

SciFiPulse

“It’s clear from the start that this is an author at the peak of their ability […] MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is a warm, comforting and entertaining read written by a master story-teller.”

“A promising start to a new series […] once you’ve entered, you’ll never leave.”

Sci Fi Now

“Interesting, fairly diverse cast of characters […] easy to get into, didn’t bog down much; sets the stage for what could be a fun to read trilogy.”

SF Signal

There is a nice blend of human, not-so-human and supernatural characters […] Friendships are subtle and believable, and stories gradually told, but there are still enough secrets and hidden back stories to keep me wanting more […] And the breadcrumbs for the sequel’s mystery have already been dropped.

Crime Review

“MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is fast-paced and fun despite a rather grisly discovery that forms the central mystery of the novel. All of Harris’ trademarks are present – charm and wit, pacy storytelling and likeable characters.”

We Love This Book

“MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is a strong opener of the new series and often feels like a love letter from Charlaine to her faithful readers. This gentle mystery shows an author confident in her writing and perhaps heralds the arrival of the best stage of her work – one where she writes primarily because of the sheer love for writing. An excellent read.”

A Knife and A Quill

“An excellent start to what looks to be an intriguing and very entertaining series, MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is a small-town American crime novel with a light brush of the supernatural. In a wonderful, captivating voice, Charlaine Harris introduces us to the town and its residents, and sets the scene for what is to follow. Deeply strange, but with enough outside influence to ground the story in reality, MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD feels, on the surface, like a light, jaunty read, but it grips like a thriller and unsettles like the finest horror novel.”

Reader Dad

“MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD is an unforgettable kick-start to a fresh and very exciting new series. Vampire Book Club

Day Shift (#2)
“A fun and engaging paranormal mystery romp.”

San Francisco Review of Books

“Sookie Stackhouse is nowhere to be found in the pages of Charlaine Harris’ DAY SHIFT but everything that made [True Blood] ground-breaking remains intact and then some […] DAY SHIFT is wondrously gothic, exchanging a clever, dark elegance for Sookie’s more blood-soaked adventures. A tour de force of both form and function.”

Providence Journal

“Outsiders swarm the sleepy streets of Midnight, Tex., as supernatural superstar Harris returns with another practiced out-of-the-ordinary mystery […] Harris continues to open up her setting, layering in more secrets as well as revealing some answers, and, in a nod to her fans, dropping the S-bomb to link this series with her famous Southern Vampire Mysteries series.”

Publishers Weekly

“The reigning master of ‘rural fantasy’ returns to the tiny village of Midnight, Texas [...] with a new story of magic and mystery [...] Harris’s customary warmth and humor shines throughout.”

Locus

“Superstar Harris is back with the second installment of her fresh new series that explores the mysteries of Midnight, Texas. I highly recommend this trilogy! 5/5 Stars.”

Shelf Quest

“NIGHT SHIFT is just as powerful, and even more entertaining, than previous books in this series. Despite the deaths and the uncovered secrets, the fear and the violence, there are moments of humor. The stories are intense, dramatic ones, building to remarkable climaxes. And, the unusual residents truly care for each other and the community they created. Charlaine Harris combines intricate plots and remarkable characters in a world she has built in Midnight, Texas. This is slightly creepy and world-building at its best.”

Lesa’s Book Critiques

“It’s fun and entertaining, and feels like you’re visiting old friends who always happen to be up to some new shenanigans p[...] I’ll admit, when it comes to Charlaine Harris, I’m biased. Shakespeare’s Landlord (#1)
“Lily’s an ingratiating heroine, and the author’s easy style makes this one an engaging breeze.”

Kirkus

Booklist

“Harris’ finely tuned, colorful and suspenseful tale, filled with vigorous and unique characters, will leave readers hoping it’s the start of a series.”

Library Journal

“Harris had done an incredible job launching her new character [...] A well-constructed psychological study that moves at a steady pace, SHAKESPEARE’S LANDLORD also takes a look at how society often views victims of violent crimes.”

Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

“Gripping.”

Albuquerque Journal

“Harris has down pat the laid-back atmosphere, country friendliness and occasional sordid secrets of small-town South. SHAKESPEARE’S LANDLORD is a satisfying introduction to a fascinating, complex set of characters. Just keep ’em coming.”

Arkansas Democrat Gazette

The Poisoned Pen

“Lily is as human and likeable as her new town. This is a sparkling series debut.”

Tulsa World

“This book feels light and warm. It also has a full complement of the eminently realistic eccentric characters with whom Harris peoples her books. Reading a book by Charlaine Harris is like meeting with your favorite neighbor in a small Southern town over coffee and cookies in her kitchen and having a cozy chat with lots of juicy gossip. I look forward to reading other books in the series.”

Rhapsody in Books

“Harris’s writing is vivid but also easy going […] SHAKESPEARE’S LANDLORD is a fun cosy mystery. Harris weaves her writerly magic once again and has captured my imagination.”

Book Chick City

“This is a short, well-written mystery that will hook you on the Shakespeare/Lily Bard series, written so ably by Charlaine Harris […] I found the book to be quite humorous as Lily has a wry, dry sense of humor that is very appealing. I highly recommend this book to mystery buffs and for those who enjoyed any of Mrs. Harris’ other books.”

All Readers

“Charlaine Harris leads us expertly to the discovery of the murderer of Pardon Albee with a taut climax where Lily gains some scars and bruises to add to those she already has. Like Hansel and Gretel, Harris has carefully distributed breadcrumbs of suspense and intrigue throughout the narrative, titbits about the residents featured and vignettes of delight when interacting with Lily and these all serve to invite readers to return safely to Shakespeare and the adventures of its heroine, Lily Bard. And it won’t be long before this reader does.”

Rachel Deeming

Shakespeare’s Champion (#2)
“Wheels within wheels in a suspense story packed with nasty characters, a few good guys, some graphic sex, and more exercise and karate lore than you ever wanted to know. Lily’s stubborn, moody, gutsy persona holds it all together, and most readers will be with her to the finish.”

Kirkus, Starred Review

“As good and, in some ways, better than its predecessor, SHAKESPEARE’S CHAMPION embodies a first-rate mystery, but this time also includes a special relationship drama about two wounded soldiers who heal each other through their love for one another. Charlaine Harris’ newest entry deserves top ten consideration.”

Midwest Book Review

“Full of surprises, this second fast-paced and gripping Lily Bard adventure showcases the amateur sleuth’s strength, determination, and martial arts prowess […] An engaging puzzler that's propelled smoothly along by Lily’s easy no-frills narration.”

Publishers Weekly

“We love the heroine of this compelling mystery […] Lily is too cool.”

Seventeen

“Precise storytelling and original characterizations make SHAKESPEARE’S CHAMPION, Charlaine Harris’ second Lily Bard mystery, surpass last year’s debut.”

Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

“Lily Bard gives as good as she gets. The reading is fast and the actions faster, proving that women really are the better half.”

Mostly Murder

“Harris does an excellent job with the Lily Bard character, neatly blending the vulnerability of someone who’s endured a truly horrific experience with the courage needed to continue. The supporting characters also captivate the reader […] Harris delivers murder with a distinct edge and an amateur sleuth training to move mountains while she cleans up the town. Lily’s on her way to becoming a contender.”

Mystery News

“A most terrific second mystery in the Lily bard series […] oh, how I love them! Lily Bard is Kinsey and V.I. multiplied by 10.”

Tulsa World

“SHAKESPEARE’S CHAMPION is a good cosy, small town mystery, but with the complex characters it’s also something more.”

Book Chick City

“I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries and/or tough female characters. Charlaine Harris’ characters are wonderful. They are quixotic combinations of practicality, spotenaity, weaknesses and strengths […] The plot was well drawn and, I must admit, the final chapter of the book was a surprise. If you enjoyed the first one, you will love the second one.”

Shakespeare’s Christmas (#3)
“Fresher, more unusual, than any other mystery I’ve read lately. This novel is the third in the series; the other two had better be waiting for me under the Christmas tree.”

Washington Post Sunday Book World

“A fascinating mystery […] Ms. Harris has written a wonderful novel that adds much to this top rate dark cozy series.”

Midwest Book Review

“Lily Bard is one of the best-drawn and most compelling characters in contemporary mystery fiction – complex, smart, streetwise, tough. Add tight plotting and a smooth style, and its no surprise that Harris has reached a new high. Don’t miss it.”

Booklist

“Harris tells a forceful story with a complex, flawed heroine. The denizens of Bartley form a memorable gallery of secondary characters. Harris’ blend of cozy style with more hard-boiled elements isn’t always smooth, but it’s interesting to see her working toward a deeper complexity.”

Publishers Weekly

“Rural flavor, small-town wedding activities, and the psychological remnants of Lily’s long-ago ordeal temper an increasingly involving plot. For fans of this series as well as of Harris’ Aurora Teagarden books.”

Library Journal

“Harris blends a noirish atmosphere with a traditional mystery. Rather than just another amateur sleuth mystery, Harris conjures a seamless story that delves below the surface of small-town life.”

Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

“SHAKESPEARE’S CHRISTMAS is without a doubt the best book in the Lily Bard series so far. The pace and story just felt much better than the previous two books and for the first time we found ourselves enjoying Lily’s adventures as much as we do Sookie Stackhouse and Aurora Teagarden.”

Entertainment Focus

“Harris writes her 214 page gem in a crisp, clean and taut style […] a nail-biter.”

Tulsa World

“Harris has a gift for depicting small-town Southern life with humor and candor. The Lily Bard series has a sharper, grittier edge than her Aurora Teagarden series […] if Lily flinches, it’s not for long, no matter how much it hurts. She just keeps getting stronger and better.”

Mostly Murder

“Lily Bard is an intriguing character, and readers will enjoy her attempts to make sense of human nature in general, and men in particular.”

RT Book Reviews

“SHAKESPEARE’S TROLLOP is without a doubt one of the best books in the Lily Bard series. [...] A fantastic read.”

Entertainment Focus

“Lily Bard has become one of my favorite fictional protagonists. This smart, gutsy woman is a terrific character. She is fearful but refuses to let it paralyze her. She throws her whole being into her martial arts classes and doesn’t back off when there are problems. Her relationship with her clients is fascinating, too. While the details of the mystery unfold, so does this complex and very human woman. It’s a great package.”

Contra Costa Times

“Those who enjoy Sue Grafton’s mysteries will love SHAKESPEARE’S TROLLOP. It is fast, straightforward, and well-plotted. Opening it is like diving into the water; it is shocking, chilling and fun.”

Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal

““It’s an efficient enough thriller, and Harris is good at painting the atmosphere of a small town where everyone knows everybody else’s business.”

Rhapsody in Books

“Harris is very skillful at bringing in pertinent details without bogging the reader down in ancient history. Her ability to convey the insularity, the family histories and the gossipyness of a small Southern town without making it all sound stereotypically stupid is a testament to her skill as a writer and storyteller.”

Cemetery Girl Graphic Novels

Pretenders (#1)
“A suitably spooky start for the series.”

Sci-Fi Bulletin

“CEMETERY GIRL has a power all of its own […] a horror tale with a nice dose of mystery thrown in [and] reminiscent of Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series with its dark imagery and frank depictions of ghosts and spirits. This is sure to be a hit with comic fans in the New Year.”

Fantasy Book Review

“The Pretenders is a first-rate opening to this YA graphic trilogy. In a couple of places I found the language jarring, but I think this is because the writers are trying to let us know it’s set in the south, without giving us a specific town or state. The characters, the set-up and the suspenseful story carried me through.”

Fantasy Literature

“It’s probably one of the best Urban Fantasy graphic novels that I’ve actually read […] Harris and Golden, with Kramer on artistic duties, have weaved a book that should appeal to pretty much every fantasy fan […] This is going to be a hit for sure.”

“Harris’ unadorned, visceral prose deftly describes her locales and her characters. The violence, while hard-hitting, never exceeds what’s called for to set up the scene. This satisfying whodunit is recommended for any mystery fan seeking an original female character operating in a vividly evoked provincial setting.”

Mystery Scene

“Harris always writes a good mystery. The usual twists and turns keep the reader turning the pages. An added bonus this time is that Harper’s relationship with Tolliver moves forward.”

BookLoons

“Harris lightens the darkness with hope. She combines great description with chases, violence, and even chit-chat to make a very enjoyable whole.”

SFcrowsnest

“This is the kind of small town, dark thriller that Stephen King excels at and Harris proves no slouch herself, crafting an atmosphere more chilling than an Arctic wind.”

Death Ray Magazine

Grave Secret (#4)
“The evolving relationship between Harper and stepbrother Tolliver continues to be the heart of a series that often is about the darkness of souls. It’s riveting from beginning to end.”

RT Book Reviews

“A gripping mystery.”

Locus

“Harper is an intriguing heroine. There are no leather pants or guns in sight […] The only evil in this series is human, and it is, perhaps, easy to relate to Harper and her problems because of this. This book is particularly satisfying.”

Horrorscope (Australia)

“Harris continues to write a series that supercedes itself with each book.”

Crimespree Magazine

“It grabs your heart and doesn’t let go. I’d be surprised if anyone can read it without shedding a few tears.”

SFRevu

“Harris has a wonderful skill with developing enjoyable, believable characters and is brave enough to address real life issues […] I think this is her best series and some of her best writing, and I will be sorry to say goodbye to her wonderful characters.”

Story Circle

“I was shocked and pleased by the way Charlaine Harris concluded some of the long going mysteries that were introduced way back in book one, Grave Sight. The character of Harper Connelly has come a long way in four books.”

Bitten By Books

“Fourth in the Harper Connelly Mystery series, this plumbs the darkest corners of family ties while maintaining tension throughout the assorted twists and turns […] This is another solid entry in what is proving to be one of the better paranormal mystery series.”

Mystery Book Reviews

“I think GRAVE SECRET is the strongest entry in the series.”

Daemon’s Books

“This is a short and sweet series about a young woman that can sense the dead after being struck by lightning. Grave Secret is a very solid conclusion to the Harper Connelly saga.”

Rex Robot

“If you enjoy mysteries with a good supernatural twist, this story is going to be one you will want to pick up. I have enjoyed the Harper Connelly stories since the beginning.”

Buried Under Books

Grave Sight: A Graphic Novel
“The art in this book is well done […] Fans of Charlaine Harris will appreciate this three-part adaptation.”

Kirkus

“Flashes of brilliance. [Artists] Denis Medri and Paolo Francescutto do an excellent job capturing human emotion and expression.”

IGN.com

“The art and adaptation make this story entertaining, true to the characters and their abilities. There’s some nice artwork to represent Harper in her working mode as opposed to daily life.”

SFRevu

“This graphic novel does a fine job of capturing the mood of Harris’s writing […] If you’re already a fan, I’m pretty sure you’ll get a kick out of seeing one artist’s impression of the movie you have running in your head when you’re reading the prose.

Fantasy and Science Fiction

“The illustrations are gorgeous […] Definitely a comic to pick up if you like murder mysteries and awesome female characters.”

Chicks with Crossbows

“I thoroughly enjoyed this well-paced and dramatic story. And the artwork fit the dark tone. I’d definitely pick up more in this series.”

SciFi Chick

Grave Surprise: A Graphic Novel
“Charlaine Harris really knows her way around a story […] I found myself hanging onto every word as the mystery unraveled.”

Outright Geekery

“The characters are lovely, three-dimensional, fully developed people […] The artwork makes each character stand out as an individual. Even more interesting is how the art carries the subtext of the storyline [...] Here the two mesh to make the sum even more powerful.”
