The Second Summoning (#2)
Just when saving the world got fun again…
Keeper Claire Hansen’s job has never been better. There are still rips in the fabric of the universe for her to repair; disasters to avert, memories to adjust. But it’s far pleasanter with a handsome, funny Bystander driving Claire and her talking cat through the sleet and snow in a warm truck, reminding her to eat occasionally. As long as she can keep him safe, Dean is better than loveable, he’s great company.
Except Claire knows she can’t keep him safe and it’s her duty as a Keeper to refuse his great company, along with everything else he’s offering. Which is Keeper-speak for reluctantly dumping his admittedly amazing ass—et al—and continuing on her own. But the Powers-That-Be have other ideas and next thing they know their uh… reunion has resulted in an Angel and Demon running around Ontario with a few additions to their traditionally genderless anatomy. One agent of cosmic chaos would be bad; two is terrifying. Add in the way Claire’s equally chaotic teenage sister is interfering, and this might be the battle of the sexes that ends it all…
Reviews
“Plenty of tongue-in-cheek-fun.”
“Cleverly and wittily done as always […] this is likely to be one of the best contemporary fantasies of the past year.”Science Fiction Chronicle
“Fans of humorous fantasy will enjoy this fast-moving tale, as will cat lovers and anyone else who can suspend their disbelief and settle back for a good time.”VOYA
"Fantasy readers will enjoy this tale and feel summoned by Ms. Huff to become a series regular.”Midwest Book Review
“From the strengths of these first two novels, it’s clear that Tanya Huff has here a series that rivals her Vicky Nelson Blood books. [...] Entertaining and often riveting, the Keeper’s Chronicles are good examples of urban fantasy, from one of Canada’s best fantasy authors, and well worth the read. I can only hope to see more in this series.”Green Man Review
“THE SECOND SUMMONING is every bit as funny as Summon the Keeper. It ranges from sly humor to Mel Brooks-like slapstick […] The characters are wonderful […] a recipe for hilarity.”
