Lilliam Rivera Named MacDowell Fellow for Forthcoming Book TINY THREADS

Congratulations are in order for JABberwocky author Lilliam Rivera, who has been awarded a MacDowell Fellowship, a highly prestigious artist residency program!

This excellent news is followed by another exciting announcement: Lilliam’s first adult book, Tiny Threads, will be published from Del Rey!

Tiny Threads is a dark supernatural thriller that follows a young woman who gets her dream job at a reputable fashion house — only to discover the dark side to the glamorous world of fashion. The book was sold in a pre-empt to Editor-In-Chief at Del Rey, Tricia Narwani. Part of a draft was used for the MacDowell Fellowship application, and Lilliam will continue to work on the book as part of her time with the residency.

Lilliam Rivera is the award-winning author of the young adult novels We Light Up the SkyNever Look Back (a Pura Belpré Honor winner), Dealing In Dreams, and The Education of Margot Sanchez. She also authored the Goldie Vance series for middle grade readers, the standalone middle grade novel Barely Floating, and a graphic novel for DC Comics, Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story.

Lilliam is a 2016 Pushcart Prize winner and a 2015 Clarion alumni with a Leonard Pung Memorial Scholarship. In addition to the MacDowell Fellowship, she has also been awarded fellowships from PEN Center USA and A Room Of Her Own Foundation; Lilliam has also received a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation and the Speculative Literature Foundation. Her short fiction and personal essays have appeared in various literary journals and publications including Tin HouseNew York TimesBuzzfeed Books, and The Washington Post.
