JABberwocky Literary Agency is pleased to announce that we have recently welcomed a new client, Elsie Adair!
Elsie Adair ultimately aspires to be a ghost haunting a seaside hotel. For now, she settles for being an American haunting the North of England, where she just completed a master’s in literature at the University of Liverpool. There, her research on World War II-era Gothic fiction won the award for best dissertation in her cohort. More importantly, it gave her the ever-useful ability to charm others with spontaneous monologues about the history of film noir. Her flights of fancy have previously been published in Foglifter, Dread Machine, and Gone Lawn under a variety of noms de guerre. Recently, she’s been exploring the thin line between desire and disgust in her work, while also drawing inspiration from her perfectly reasonable belief that everyone is bisexual unless proven otherwise.
Elsie is represented by Valentina Sainato, who is excited to work with her on her queer gothic body horror novel, DWINDLESKIN. The novel follows Jonathan Mallory, whose perpetually decaying flesh means performing as The Living Corpse in a New Orleans sideshow is the only job where most people care to look at him. But charming heiress Eloise Montgomery isn’t most people, and Jonathan’s lonely life is upended when she insists on hiring him as an escort. Eloise whisks him away to her luxurious home in New York City, parading Jonathan around and seemingly thriving in the scandal his condition brings to her reputation. But as Jonathan and Eloise navigate the darker desires of their relationship, it becomes harder for Jonathan to hide the other insatiable hunger threatening to overwhelm him…
