We’re thrilled to announce that Brandon Sanderson‘s SKYWARD will be adapted for TV!
Tomorrow Studios, the indie studio behind the Netflix adaptation of One Piece, will be adapting the novel, Deadline revealed in an exclusive. Brandon will executive produce the series and write the pilot script alongside TV writer-producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
SKYWARD is the action-packed first book in the Cytoverse universe, following a pilot named Spensa who wants nothing more than to join the fighter corps to defend her world against ever-present alien attacks. Her father’s disgraced legacy as a traitor and a coward make her chances of getting into flight school near impossible, but Spensa is determined to fly — and an accidental discovery in a long-forgotten cavern might just grant her a way to claim the stars.

Upon publication, SKYWARD soared to the New York Times bestseller list, hitting #3 in the Young Adult Hardcover category! It remained on the NYT bestseller list for six weeks, as well as landing spots on the USA Today, Indie, and Audible bestseller lists. SKYWARD has been translated into over twenty languages and was deemed a Sakura Medal Winner in Japan in 2020.
The initial Skyward series has four books, with the Skyward Flight novellas supplementing Spensa’s journey with the perspectives of her team on Detritus. In September, a new Skyward series will publish with BLIGHTFALL, the first in the Riftwake series that follows the legendary Skyward Flight as they undertake a deadly intergalactic mission to explore a mysterious alien world. Both the Skyward Flight novellas and the Riftwake series are co-written with fellow JABberwocky client, Janci Patterson!
This news follows another big announcement earlier this year of The Stormlight Archives and the Mistborn series being adapted for film and TV by Apple TV. Brandon’s achievements don’t stop in the film & TV space. Since his first novel was published by spring 2005, his books have been translated into forty different languages and sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
Congratulations Brandon!
