As we finish up the month of July, one thing is for certain: it’s the summer of Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
Her latest novel, THE DAUGHTER OF DOCTOR MOREAU, released last week on July 19th and we’re thrilled to say that it has now hit the New York Times bestseller list! It landed at #15 on the chart and we’re hoping it keeps climbing through the ranks.
THE DAUGHTER OF DOCTOR MOREAU is a vivid and intense reimagining of The Island of Doctor Moreau set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century Mexico. Its lush prose and dramatic tension has received high praise from many trade outlets, including no less than three starred reviews. In addition to the NY Times, the novel is #3 on the LA Times bestseller list and #7 on the Vancouver Sun bestseller list!
This wonderful news also comes a day after former US president Barack Obama released his Summer 2022 reading list, which featured VELVET WAS THE NIGHT as one of his favorite books this year. VELVET WAS THE NIGHT published last year, also to much critical praise, and released in paperback earlier this summer.
As the New York Times said back in May, “The imagination of Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a thing of wonder, restless and romantic, fearless in the face of genre, embracing the polarities of storytelling — the sleek and the bizarre, wild passions and deep hatreds — with cool equanimity.” We could not agree more. Congratulations Silvia!
