What a thrilling Sunday night at Chicago’s Chicon 7 for all of us at JABberwocky as our client Jim C. Hines won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer !!!
For those of you who don’t know, the Hugo Awards are the biggest to be had in the sf/fantasy field, voted on by thousands of fans attending the World Science Fiction Convention. Jim is the first of our clients to take home this prized trophy, richly deserved and widely recognized as he led in every round of this year’s balloting. Jim uses his blog and Live Journal to write passionately and entertainingly on a diverse assortment of topics, while also providing a forum for frequent guest bloggers including a first novelist every Friday. The warmth and Jim’s generous spirit was demonstrated in Jim’s acceptance speech where he recused himself from this category in future years in order to ensure as many other fan writers as possible the opportunity that he was given this year.
This has been a great few weeks for Jim whose newest novel Libriomancer has been his fastest selling yet. The Fan Writer Hugo is very much reflected glory for us at JABberwocky, but the qualities Jim brings as a fan and the qualities that bring readers to great, critically praised, genre-bestselling novels like Libriomancer give us every confidence that future years will see Jim on the Hugo ballot for the book-length fiction that we are honored to represent.
All of us at JABberwocky today also want to acknowledge Steve Mancino, our first full-time employee, who saw something special in Jim’s debut novel Goblin Quest and brought Jim into the JABberwocky family.
