Charlaine Harris named the 2021 Grand Master for the Mystery Writers of America!

We could not be more proud to announce that #1 bestselling author long-time JABberwocky client, the one and only Charlaine Harris, was named the 2021 Grand Master for the Mystery Writers of America!

Charlaine, alongside Jeffrey Deaver, will receive the MWA Grand Master award during the 75th annual Edgar Awards Ceremony on April 29, 2021. The organization describes the award as a representation of the pinnacle of achievement in mystery writing; it was established to acknowledge important contributions to this genre, as well as for a body of work that is both significant and of consistent high quality.

And Charlaine certainly fits the bill! She’s been writing for over 30 years and has been a JABberwocky client with Joshua Bilmes during the agency’s entire history. The first book they worked on together and sold was REAL MURDERS in 1989, the first in what would become the long-running Aurora Teagarden mystery series as well as a client/agent relationship spanning three decades (and still going!).

Since then, Charlaine has penned multiple #1 bestsellers with series like Sookie Stackhouse, Midnight Texas, Lily Bard, and her latest, Gunnie Rose. Not to mention her many standalone novels, short story collections, and anthology contributions (a full bibliography available here)! The numbers speak for themselves: Charlaine has written over 50 books in her lifetime, which have sold over 37 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 35 different languages.

She’s no stranger to the silver screen either! The Sookie Stackhouse novels were produced into the extremely popular HBO show, True Blood. NBC adapted the supernatural Midnight, Texas series for television as well. You can also catch the Aurora Teagarden mysteries currently airing on the Hallmark channel, starring Candace Cameron Bure as the lead!

When she found out, Charlaine said, “This is like winning the lottery and the Pulitzer Prize in one day. I am so honored and thrilled to join the ranks of revered writers who are Grand Masters. I thank the MWA Board from the bottom of my heart.”

We are so honored and thrilled to have you as a client and friend! Congratulations on this well-deserved award, Charlaine!
